Panna Tiger Reserve
Situated in the Vindhya mountain range, Panna National Park is a breathtaking landscape of dense forests, deep gorges, and the beautiful Ken River. It is a premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Flora and Fauna
Panna is globally renowned for its successful tiger conservation program. But the royal Bengal tiger isn't the only apex predator here. The park is also home to leopards, wild dogs (dholes), wolves, hyenas, and the elusive rusty-spotted cat.
Along the Ken River, you can spot massive Mugger crocodiles and the long-snouted Gharial. For bird watchers, Panna is a paradise with over 200 species, including the majestic Indian vulture and the blossom-headed parakeet.
The Ken River
The Ken River, one of the cleanest rivers in India, flows right through the reserve. It serves as the primary water source for the wildlife and creates stunning waterfalls and deep gorges that offer spectacular sunset views during your evening safari.
Safari Zones & Gates
- Madla Gate (Core Zone)The most popular and easily accessible gate, offering varied terrains and excellent tiger spotting opportunities.
- Hinouta Gate (Core Zone)Known for its rocky, plateau-like landscape and drier vegetation. Great for spotting leopards and sloth bears.
- Jhinna & Akola Gates (Buffer Zone)Ideal for night safaris and bird watching. These zones offer a quieter, deeply immersive jungle experience.
Best Time to Visit
October to March: The weather is pleasant and the forest is lush green. Best for overall photography and comfortable safaris.
April to June: The vegetation dries up and water sources shrink, making this the absolute best time for clear tiger sightings near waterholes.
* Note: The core zones of the park remain closed during the monsoon season (July to September).
